Dr. Margaretha Hertle is a fully licensed Family Practice physician who practices anthroposophical medicine at the Ita Wegman Family Health Center in Ghent, NY. She lives next door to the office with her younger son, 4 dogs (3 certified therapy dogs and a Rottweiler she is training as a service dog) and other animals. She speaks both English and German fluently. Her two sons are now 17 and 23 years old, and attend/ed the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School nearby.

Dr. Hertle’s training and background include:
Medical School: received medical degree in 1994 from SUNY HSC at Brooklyn,
Family Practice Residency: completed at UKSM Wichita, KS, in 1997,
Board Certification: with the American Board of Family Practice obtained in 1997.

In addition, Dr. Hertle has studied and worked with anthroposophical medicine for about 40 years
in Germany, Switzerland and in the US, including 17 years in private practice (since 2002).
After residency, she first worked for four years in standard family practice settings which included family practice obstetrics and rotating call as emergency room physician.
While in private practice, she has also served several years as a Waldorf School physician,
6 years as Camphill Village Copake Medical Director (2002-2008),
13 years as a children’s summer camp physician (every August).

Dr. Hertle draws on many years of experience to bring a vibrant picture of what is possible out of this human-centered approach to health and healing as it pertains to medicine today and particularly to specific health concerns and to the health and healthy development of children. Due to time and distance constraints, Dr. Hertle does not currently hold any hospital privileges but will communicate with doctors and patients as needed when they are admitted to a hospital.
